Making The Net Safe For Kids

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The Internet is a very powerful tool. The Internet has changed a lot, before it was an archive of information now its so much more. The Internet is no longer about data its about people. Were as before chat rooms were reserved for people with special interests ( such as a trade) and cyber  super nerds sits like Facebook and Bebo have made it cool to have friends on the web.

In many ways this trend is a good thing it allows kids to interact with their friends from all around the country in a safe and fun way. However some times things are very diffrent. As the web becomes more of a social medium in also brings with it some of the social problems of society, problems such a bullying and predatory adults who seek out week and venerable people such as children and exploit them.

As the web now begins to mimic society as a whole parents as they do in normal society are beginning to try and think of ways that they can protect their children online. Sometimes parents take severe actions when they worry about their children, actions such as banning the child from using the Internet or severely restricting access. In my opinion this is very similar to parents who keep their children locked inside all day and never let them out into the real world. Its harmful for children not to interact and can effect the development of their skills for later life. Equally at the other extreme there are those parents who let their kids do whatever the hell they like, sometimes this approach is ok but a lot of the time those kids end up in trouble. The key is a healthy balance but how can you achieve this on line?

In order too allow you children the freedom they need to explore and learn on the Internet there are a few simple steps you can follow. The first and probably most importance of these steps is to talk to your child about the dangers of the Internet and take an interest in what they do, try not to lecture your children or interrogate them just be interested in them and their online friends. Try to work with your child to come up with a set of rules for Internet use that you can both agree on and then type these out and post them up next to the computer. Be clever about where the computer is kept be sure other people are near by and can see the screen.

Once you have taken these basic steps if you are still not comfortable with your child using the Internet there are a couple of other measures you can take. You can get free adult filters from the net but they are not totally effective and wont guard against bullies. The second thing you can do is download software to monitor and protect your children online. This software will record all your child’s activities including conversations which they have with people over the net using instant messenger and other online services. There will be a cost to getting this software but it will let you monitor your child’s online activities without them ever knowing. The software can act like an invisible safety net to your other measures of protection.

In Summary try not to overreact to the potential dangers of the net there are many good things out their and the Internet can be a very useful tool to helping you child’s academic and social education but also keep in mind there are risk and you need to remain ever on your guard in order to effectively protect your children online.

Some Simple Preschool Teacher Resources Worth Knowing A Bit More About

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

There are numerous preschool teacher resources available that can each help make life more interesting for those little children that are just beginning to learn about the world around them and among the options open to preschool teachers is “Centers at Little or No Cost” that is a wonderful book that contains over two hundred pages that contain huge patterns that can be reproduced and which also come with directions that show children of all ages how to perform certain activities that include reading, math, language as well as recipes for art and a lot more.

Remember Songs

Another useful preschool teacher resources is “A Ring of Songs and Finger Plays CD” that help teachers to remember songs as well as finger play and which provides more than fifty songs as well as finger plays that can even be printed on paper laminates (post card sized) and which is quite cheap and costs no more than it is believed fifteen dollars plus shipping and handling extra.

Other preschool teacher resources include ABC Flash Cards CD as well as Alphabet Basket Game that have alphabets along with three to five pictures that show little children the beginning sound for each different letter.

You can also benefit from other exciting preschool teacher resources such as Rhyming cards that are a must for every classroom teacher as too is Rhyming Puzzle cards which should be used after having introduced the children to rhyming cards.

If, as a preschool teacher you also make an effort to learn how children actually develop them and learn, you will then be in a better position to select the proper materials as well as learn which preschool teacher resources will prove to be the most effective and which will ensure growth in the child.

Among other preschool teacher resources that every teacher would require are those that will help the child become more literate and so there is need to find suitable books, and any means to improve phonological awareness in the child as too resources to help children improve their vocabulary as well as language.

Other aspects of preschool child learning that require proper preschool teacher resources are math, science, social science, the arts as well as better awareness of modern technology.

Also, preschool teacher resources must include material that helps teachers understand their own role which essentially is to continuously monitor and observe young children and to guide their learning as well as assess whatever progress the children are making.

Another important aspect to preschool teaching is that which pertains to preschool teacher curriculum that must take into account a number of things. Finally, preschool teaching also requires that the teacher also understands the role that the child’s family plays and so it is important for the teacher to bridge for the child two different worlds which are the home and the preschool and use whatever preschool teacher resources are required.

Use Of Preschool Art Projects Can Help In Developing The Child’s Innate Abilities

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Children are blessed with a unique ability to express the world around them in a way that adults cannot and when they are introduced to preschool art projects, they are sure to get a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills at a young age that can be developed over the rest of their lives and which hopefully will make them better at whatever craft they choose to follow in their adult life. It is thus a good idea for parents to encourage their preschool going children to take part in preschool art projects so that they can learn to improve their motor skills and also express them as best as they can from a very young age.

Not Just Math And Language

Children who are exposed to preschool art projects will be able to learn new things that are also sure to be different from the usual math and language that they are taught, and in this way they can be entertained as well as have a chance to enjoy recreational oriented activities including drawing and painting as well as even sculpting and possibly even modeling.

When children are allowed to show off their works, parents as well as teachers will be able to determine the talent that the child has and who has, by using their own thought processes, given life to various preschool art projects. In fact, their works are often enough to let teachers assess the level of ability in each child though it may yet be too early to assess how successful the child will be later in life based on the works that they make at such a young age.

It is however, never a good idea to criticize the works of your child who has put in a lot of effort into their preschool art projects and it would be far better to encourage the child and never let them feel belittled in any way by finding faults in their works. The need of the hour is to give the child guidance and appreciation as well as unstinting support so that the child gains in confidence physically as well as emotionally and even mentally.

It is also a good idea to think up some interesting preschool art ideas for your child and to also incorporate unique themes into whichever preschool art projects are given to the child and to also encourage the child to learn how to read and write, and in addition, it is also a good idea to focus on a particular letter of the alphabet around which various preschool art projects as well as games can revolve.

Finding The Perfect Preschool Online Games

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Whether your child is just starting preschool or has been in preschool for a couple of years, a lot of parents are starting to find that there are many benefits to having their children involved in preschool online games. Not only is there a lot to learn from these games as far as basic education but they will also learn some basic computer skills as well. And since computers are a big part of our world, there is no reason why our children should be sheltered from them. While the Internet itself can be a little scary, as long as you are monitoring your child and know what sites he or she is on, then there should be no problem.

A lot of the good games that you will find are free online preschool games and these are just as good as any other that you would find. There really is no reason to shell out the big bucks to purchase games whether on disk or through a subscription when there are plenty of free games out there to pick from. Preschool online games are easy to find with a quick search on the Internet. You may even have luck in searching your child’s favorite cartoon channel as it may have games on its website.

Some Basic Tips To Consider

While most of the sites that offer preschool online games are safe to be on, you should always check each website out first to make sure. The last thing you want is for it to be a scam in order to suck children into something they should have no part in. Also, you want to make sure that the preschool online games that they will be using are trying the best thing for their particular age. Having a child try to play a game that is too far above their level may only make things worse for your kid.

Even after you checked out the website and played some of the preschool online games yourself, you still want to make sure that you are keeping a close eye on your child. We are all aware that the Internet is known for their pop up ads and the trouble that can be found within those. Since your preschooler is such a young age, there should be no reason why he or she would be left alone on the computer. Take this time to sit with your child and play the preschool online games with him or her and use it as a bonding moment.
