LAWKMW asked:

Is this allowed where the animals are around the children all day long? From newborns to four year olds. I know some people who have there kids going to a daycare that has about five animals in the house the animals are outside and inside pets. I thought I read somewhere before that animals are not allowed to be in daycare homes. Just curious. Thanks

It all matters on your state and county laws and regulations

well from what i know it’s not illegal because when you sign up to go to the daycare they have to tell you if they have pets and the circumstances of those pets (meaning whether they are inside dogs or outside dogs and how much they will be around your child)

Where I am from (vic, aust) at home daycare providers are allowed to have animals but they must be correctly restrained around the children at all times. My daycare provider had to have her dog tied up or kept in a small section of fenced yard while the children were in her care. These providers are checked up on regularly and randomly by supervisors. We always had a note sent home when the supervisor had been to let us know.

I used to run a home daycare through an agency. They allowed pets as long as you provide proof that the pet is healthy and its shots are up to date. It may depend where you live and what the rules are for home daycares in your area. I’m in canada, our rules are set out in the Day Nurseries Act.

I have owned a home day care in connecticut for 13 years. We are allowed to have pets in the home if they are up to date on vaccines and dogs should be kept away from the daycare children. we have a cat, but will not get a dog while i own the daycare because of liability issues. It is also very difficult to have proper liability insurance when you own a daycare and have a dog. Most companies will not insure you.
