danman2_2999 asked:
Can a licensed day care provider legally have a registered gun at the premises? The day care center is at the home residence, and a registered firearm is wanted for protection, which would be safely locked away at all times in a safe. Is this legal or are there laws specifically against fire arms at that type of location?
California…Los Angeles county

That’s a good question, first it might be important to know where it is because it might vary on a state-by-state basis.

that’s going to be state specific; to say nothing of the interest their insurance carrier may have in it. I’d talk to the local sheriff and zoning/permits departments. I’d never.

he.she has the same right as any other Citizen to posses a fire arm.
the owner must ensure that the firearm is locked in an approved safe and that the children have no access to it.Go to this site to make sure

It depends on where you are and having a firearm locked up in a safe is not the place to have it, when you need it you need it now. Go to the local police station and ask for someone who trains in gun safety for a concealed carry permit. Go to the class and it will open your eyes. carrying a gun loaded and locked in a car is stupid yo could have someone rob you with your own gun. having it locked in a safe would be useless what are you going to tell the trouble maker hold on for a minute while I go to my safe?? Get the permit learn how to carry and the type of weapon you will use then carry it at all times never leave it in a purse a jacket or anywhere but at your side. WhEn you take the Class it will tell you what I am talking about. THen if you decide not to carry then fine and good. But at least you will be informed and understand the principle of carrying and it will help yo decide whether you want to do it or not. At least you will be informed and you won’t let the bad guys get the gun. And they are the ones who commit the crimes not normally the law abiding citizen’s.

Each state is different. If you want to research it yourself, the NRA website has links to each state, or you can call your local sheriff or police department and ask, or you can hire an attorney to render an opinion.

Someone asked a question like this earlier. They came to the conclusion that it was legal in California to have a registered handgun at a daycare center as long as it was safely secure. Don’t know how accurate their research was, but it was a question on yahoo answers a few months back.

From what I can find, you will be ok on this.
Kalifornia has some rather stupid and totally ineffective gun laws.
I have given some links to both the state and county law. Read through these and follow any that you think may cause you trouble.
California law:
Drawing/Exhibiting Loaded Firearm on Juvenile Activities Grounds
It is unlawful for any person to draw or exhibit any loaded or unloaded firearm in a rude, angry, or threatening manner or use any loaded or unloaded firearm in any fight or quarrel upon the grounds of any day care center, playground, or public or private youth center, or facility where programs are being conducted for persons under 18 years of age. (Penal Code ยงยง 417 (b), 626.95.)
I do not find anything from the county regarding this, but look for yourself.
Just as a thought, now would be a good time to sue the county and the state relating to the validity of the anti gun laws. With the state and county in a budget crunch, a class action lawsuit that would cost LA County twenty or thirty million might not be answered. If it is answered, then the line of attack would be to question in the media why the county is wasting limited resources on this when the money would be better spend suppressing the gangs in Compton or Watts.
